Eminem, considered the God of rap, has an infamous history of drug abuse like many other celebrities in the industry. Though his contribution to the rap genre of music will go down in history as one of the most pivotal ones, it is at the expense of his personal life. The ‘Lose Yourself’ rapper has had a dark past perhaps because of which he resorted to drug abuse and remained a victim of it for a long time.
However, like many other adversaries life threw at him, Eminem is celebrating overcoming his drug issues as well. The rapper recently celebrated 16 years of sobriety, showing his commitment to self-improvement. The icon took to social media to share the news with his fans.

Eminem’s Journey To Sobriety Has Been Heroic
Also known as Marshall Mathers, Eminem has had a rough journey to sobriety, with a drug overdose in 2007 that almost killed him and served as a wake-up call. Talking about the transformative moment, he revealed on Paul Rosenberg’s Paul Pod podcast in 2022, “I remember when I first got sober and all the s— was out of my system, I remember just being, like, really happy and everything was f—— new to me again.”
The rapper also received a lot of support from his family during the struggle. His biological daughter Hailie Jade and adopted children Alaina and Stevie stood firmly by him as he recuperated. Eminem also incorporated a shift in lifestyle and exercise as a crucial component of his recovery.
“When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober,” he shared with Men’s Journal in 2015. “So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.”
For Eminem, exercise became more than just a physical activity. “It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that’s good for them,” he added in the same interview.
