The Super Bowl this year was special for several reasons. Be it Taylor Swift jetting off from Tokyo to cheer for her beau Travis Kelce or the dazzling Half Time show performances headed by Usher. What added a twist to all the dazzle was Usher’s secret wedding to Jennifer Goicoechea.
While it came as a shock for his fans as well as the entire entertainment industry, the singer recently managed to pull off the wedding without even a hint of it to anyone until after the Super Bowl. The 45-year-old has now opened up more about the impromptu ceremony during an interview at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards.
Usher Recalls How He Informed His Family About The Spontaneous Decision To Get Married In Las Vegas
Usher revealed that his under-the-wraps wedding with his longtime beau Jennifer Goicoechea left even their families fairly surprised. “It was an incredible moment,” he told the outlet as he opened up more about his wedding to Goicoechea.
He hinted that the couple is still planning to have another “incredible, over-the-top wedding,” though he said that they decided to get legally married the night that he performed the Super Bowl Halftime Show as a “button at the end of an incredible Las Vegas run.”
Though they were surrounded by their loved ones including their mothers, children, and immediate family, Usher and Goicoechea stunned everyone with the spontaneous decision to exchange vows in Las Vegas.
Recounting the surprised reactions, Usher chuckled as he remembered breaking the news to their families. “My mother was there, her mother was there, our kids were there, our immediate family was there,” he said
“Matter of fact, everybody was surprised. I’m like, ‘No no no no, we’re having a wedding right now.’ They’re like, ‘What?’ ” Chuckling, Usher also recalled telling his family that he and Goicoechea were “gonna go have Elvis officiate us.”

Usher Holds Women In His Life In High Regards
Jennifer Goicoechea and Usher have been dating since 2018 and share two children. Usher also shares two children with his ex-wife, Tameka Foster.
In February, it was confirmed that the couple’s wedding took place at Vegas Weddings’ drive-thru tunnel, The Fast Lane. Adding to the charm of the occasion, Usher’s mother, Jonnetta Patton, stood witness to their love, according to their marriage certificate.
Recently while accepting the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards, Usher took a moment to thank the remarkable women in his life, including his mother and his “beautiful wife Jennifer“.
“They say behind or beside or with every strong man is a stronger woman, and for that I thank my mother and my beautiful wife Jennifer for holding me down,” he said. “My kids, I love you guys so, so much,” he added as he concluded his speech.
