Emma Watson Was Nervous Of Her American Accent
Being British, one thing that freaked out Emma Watson was the fact that she had to do an American accent in the film ‘Perks of Being A Wallflower’. The fact that she had not read this famous novel with a cult following had also guilt-tripped her. In addition, the American accent added more pressure to it. The American accent had the actress pushed out of her comfort zone in a ‘big way’.
The ‘Little Women’ actress was bothered by her ignorance of the American accent and of how American schools work. “So I started freaking out and making these crazy notes and emailing the director at three in the morning going, ‘What does this mean?’” the ‘Harry Potter’ actress said once to The Scotsman.

From Hermione Granger To Sam
The director and writer of ‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’, Stephen Chbosky thought Emma Watson perfect for his character Sam. The idea struck him as she watched the actress play Hermione Granger in ‘Goblet Of Fire’. “One scene where Emma and Daniel Radcliffe are in front of these steps, and it was really moving and I just felt that Emma could be Sam,” the director said to Lamplight in 2021.
Meeting Emma Watson, the writer was more sure of her choice. Chbosky remarks on Watson’s ‘kindred spirit‘ which made her ideal for the role. For her American accent, the 30-year-old actress sought professional help and support from her co-stars Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller.
