It was back in 2012 that the supermodel Bella Hadid was diagnosed with the tick-borne bacterial condition Lyme disease. The then-16-year-old had to give up her equestrian career as she faced major health setbacks. The condition has caused the model to be bedridden, hospitalized, and in need of IV drips often, over the years.
It was in 2020 that the young Hadid sister started to give insights into the troubles she faced due to the condition. She pointed out the symptoms she had to face on a daily basis. This included ‘difficulty walking’, ‘joint pain’, and ‘nausea’.
‘Basically, the nerve pain from my jaw ended up going down my entire meridian of my body, and to the touch, everywhere all the way down my body through all my lymph nodes. This pain, man. Something real different. Real different,’ the supermodel shared her pain in a recent Tiktok.

Bella Is Spreading Awareness Regarding Lyme Disease
Bella Hadid has taken a keen interest in spreading awareness about the condition over the past few years. Her mother, the former model Yolanda Hadid and brother Anwar Hadid have also suffered from Lyme disease. The iconic beauty was also honored at the Global Lyme Alliance’s second annual ‘Uniting for a Lyme-Free World’ gala last year.
These recent months, Bella Hadid had started a more secure lifestyle by giving up alcohol completely. In March, she took to Instagram to celebrate her 5 months of being completely sober. Putting her health first, the top-notch model is on medical leave for the past few months taking daily treatment for Lyme disease.
