Jared Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump, was silently battling thyroid cancer in 2019 while serving as a senior advisor for the then president, Donald Trump. He has talked about his cancer diagnosis and treatment in his new book, ‘Breaking History: A White House Memoir,’ which is set to be released on August 9.
Kushner has talked about how he managed to work in the White House space along with fighting a treacherous disease. It was the White House physician Sean Conley who informed him that test results from Walter Reed Medical Center showed he had cancer.

How Did Jared Kushner Cope With The Cancer Diagnosis Result?
According to People, Kushner writes in his upcoming memoir how he got aware of his Thyroid cancer. “On the morning that I traveled to Texas to attend the opening of a Louis Vuitton factory, White House physician Sean Conley pulled me into the medical cabin on Air Force One, ‘Your test results came back from Walter Reed,’ he said. ‘It looks like you have cancer. We need to schedule surgery right away.'”
The 40-year-old businessman and advisor asked Sean Conley to keep the diagnosis result a secret from everyone, especially his wife, Ivanka Trump, and his father-in-law, Donald Trump. During this time, Kushner kept himself busy with the work at the White House, so he couldn’t dwell on any thoughts of his cancer.
“When I did think about it, I reminded myself that it was in the hands of God and the doctors, and that whatever happened was out of my control,” he shared. “At moments, I caught myself wondering whether I would need extensive treatment.”
Donald Trump Already Knew Of His Son-In-Law’s Surgery
Later, Jared Kushner told his close-knit circle about his cancer and surgery. “With the exception of Ivanka, Avi, Cassidy, and Mulvaney, I didn’t tell anyone at the White House — including the president,” Kushner writes. He writes about the time when he decided to reveal the news to the President.
Surprisingly, the president was already aware of it. The businessman wrote, “The day before the surgery, Trump called me into the Oval Office and motioned for his team to close the door. ‘Are you nervous about the surgery?’ he asked.” On asking how he knew about it, Donald Trump replied, “I’m the president. I know everything. I understand that you want to keep these things quiet. I like to keep things like this to myself as well. You’ll be just fine. Don’t worry about anything with work. We have everything covered here.”
Since the cancer was caught quite early, “a substantial part” of his thyroid was removed during the surgery. The surgery happened during a time when tense deal negotiations were relayed between the States and China.
