Kenneth Petty was charged with attempted rape in April 1995. The charges were linked to the assault of a 16-year-old girl that happened the previous year and he was eventually sentenced to 54 months.
Petty was later listed as a level two registered sex offender in New York and had to serve four years on charges of assault. Nicki Minaj’s fans were worried for her and they told her about her husband, following which she turned off the comments on social media.
Kenneth Petty was arrested in March 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender. He denied the charges and posted a $100,000 bail. He pleaded guilty in 2021 and was sentenced to 10 years. He was also put on house arrest and three years of probation in July 2022.

Nicki Minaj responded to the people criticizing her relationship when she appeared in an episode of her podcast, ‘Queen Radio.’ She expressed her frustration towards those saying that she lowered her standards, saying that truth and money cannot buy her “happiness and good sex.”
Wendy Williams was also a target of Minaj’s criticism when she mentioned Petty’s problems in 2019, saying that he was manslaughter, a killer, and a sex offender. Minaj responded by saying that she is not satisfied with the fact that every time people take her husband’s name, they bring up his legal problems.
