Taylor Swift‘s upcoming album ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ is dominating the headlines and for all the right reasons. The songstress announced the album on the Grammys night as she received her award for the Album of The Year. As if her fans weren’t elated enough with the news of her 13th Grammy win coupled with the album announcement, she also released the contents of her album a few days later.
The name of the album also immediately set social media abuzz with speculation that it is inspired by one of her ex-boyfriends Joe Alwyn’s group chat. Swift has a penchant for basing her work on her past relationship experiences. She is seemingly keeping up with the tradition as some eagle-eyed Swifties are connecting one of her songs in the upcoming album to her other ex, Harry Styles.

Taylor Swift’s upcoming album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was revealed to have some interesting track titles shortly after she announced it on the Grammy Awards night. Some catchy track titles like ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys‘ and ‘Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?’ have surely set the excitement going for her fans until the album gets released on January 19.
But one particular title that activated the Swifties’ extraordinary detective talent was ‘But Daddy I Love Him‘. It took no time for Taylor’s fans to start dissecting every possible clue that they could associate with the title, which led them to her ex, Harry Styles.
Some Swifties rightly pointed at a rather viral fashion moment, when Styles sported a shirt on January 1, 2020, with the same phrase as Taylor’s title track – ‘But Daddy I Love Him‘. But the reference did not stop there as Swifties had more to their investigation.

The fans also pointed out that the quote originates from Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid‘, a film released in Swift’s birth year, 1989. Taylor has also seemingly had some attachment to the movie as she had dressed as Ariel for a 2019 New Year’s Eve party. The party was a homage to the childhood heroes that Swift and her friends held close to their hearts.

Is Harry Styles Taylor Swift’s Collaborator For ‘But Daddy I Love Him’?
While speculation is rife that Styles might be the muse behind the track, some fans are also putting forth a notion suggesting he would contribute to the song rather than be its subject. While Swift has already revealed the collaborators for other tracks, the ones she worked with for ‘But Daddy I Love Him‘ remain a mystery. The fans’ speculation about her collaboration with Harry, therefore, holds ground.
Though Swift is famous for drawing song inspirations from her past failed relationships, her relationship with Styles did not end dramatically and has in fact evolved into a friendly bond between the two. This also further intensifies the possibility of the two coming together for the song.
The duo also made it to the headlines during the 2023 Grammys when Taylor cheered for a win that Harry Styles secured. They also had a brief conversation during the event, pointing at a friendly dynamic between them. Reports at the time had suggested that Swift respected Styles’ talent and had no bad blood with him.
“Taylor and Harry have no issues and they are friendly,” a source had told Entertainment Tonight. “Taylor thinks Harry is such a talented artist and has nothing but respect for him. Their relationship was a long time ago, and Taylor has moved on and is very happy in her relationship with Joe [Alwyn]. She has matured as a person, and things are peaceful and good between them,” the source had added.
As fans eagerly await the release of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, the anticipation about the subject of its tracks also continues to grow.
