Perry’s step-father Keith Morrison recently opened up about how the actor was right before his death.

“It’s Not Easy”: Keith Morrison Opens Up About Dealing With Stepson Matthew Perry’s Death
Speaking about the enduring grief he experienced after the unexpected death of his stepson, Keith Morrison shared his daily struggle with loss. Opening up at the Hoda Kotb’s Making Space podcast, Morrison said, “It’s as other people have told me hundreds of times. It doesn’t go away yet. It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time. And there’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain, and it’s not easy“.
Morrison married Perry’s mother Suzanne when the actor was 12 years old. He has had a cordial relationship with his stepson and said he found solace in knowing that Perry was content before his passing.
“He was happy, and he said so. And he hadn’t said that for a long time,” Morrison said. “It’s a source of comfort, but also, he didn’t get to have his third act, and that’s not fair. And as he said himself, ‘If if I suddenly died, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.’ And he was right,” he added.

“They Were Closer Than I Had Seen Them For Decades”: Keith Morrison Says Matthew Perry Was Close To His Mother Before Death
Reflecting on Matthew Perry’s relationship with his mother, Keith Morrison revealed the closeness they shared in Perry’s final days. “It’s especially (not easy) for his mom. I don’t think I’m giving away too much if I say that toward the end of his life, they were closer than I had seen them for decades, and texting each other constantly,” he disclosed.
Recalling his own bond with Perry, Morrison said though the two had differing personalities they shared a strong connection. “He was loud and out there and funny and aggressive. He had that kind of very fiery personality. And mine is not like that,” Morrison said. “I never tried to replace his dad, but I was there for him, and he knew it. We were close,” he added.
Matthew Perry, most known for his role in the iconic sitcom ‘Friends‘, grappled with addiction struggles in the public eye. Morrison highlighted Perry’s resilience in facing his challenges and accepting help when needed.
“He came to understand he’d get to a certain point, and then he knew he had to go and get treatment. And he’d accept help when he needed it. But as he said himself, it just kept happening, and it was it was a big bear. It was a tough thing to be — big, terrible thing,” Morrison said.
In the wake of Perry’s death, Morrison and Perry’s mother launched the Matthew Perry Foundation to continue his advocacy for drug abuse treatment.
