It was in September 2020 when Universal Pictures confirmed that a biopic on the iconic pop singer and actress, Madonna, is in the works and will soon be coming to the big screens. Along with this huge announcement was also added that Madonna herself is co-writing and directing the film.
“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer—a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna gave out a statement for her biopic in 2020. Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner, known for her exceptional performance in ‘Ozark‘ and ‘Inventing Anna,’ has been cast in the role of Madonna.

Madonna Doesn’t Want To Give Misogynistic Men Any Chances At Ruining Her Biopic
Talking to Variety, Madonna opened up about the decisions for her upcoming biopic, the title of which is still not revealed yet. Updating on the movie, she said, “I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter. I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs.”
She further added, “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film. It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story but me.” It is quite a ‘Material Girl‘ move of her to not give any slight chances of letting any man talk about her life, but only she herself.
Many might question Madonna’s directing skills, but this is not the first time that she has taken up such a project. In 2008, she had some directorial experience with ‘Filth and Wisdom’ and in 2011 with ‘W.E’.
What Will Be The Main Vision Of This Biopic?
Madonna added an important message regarding the biopic. She said, “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
It was already reported that the biopic will conclude with Madonna’s ‘1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour,’ which strongly planted Madonna’s musical and cultural impact, and forever etched her name as one of the greatest pop icons of her time.
Erin Cressida Wilson has also joined the production, along with the co-writers, Madonna and Diablo Cody. As of December 2021, Wilson and Madonna were still working on the screenplay.
