Actors often give auditions for big-budget films but they end up not getting the role. Stand-up comic and actor Marc Maron also experienced this while auditioning for James Cameron’s epic science fiction film ‘Avatar 2: The Way of Water.’ His experience was not very pleasant.
In a recent interview, the 59-year-old recalled the time he auditioned for the film and called it “ridiculous.” However, he did receive a box of cigars as a consolation from the director for appearing in the audition. Marc Maron Recalls His ‘Avatar 2’ Audition
Marc Maron has been a part of the entertainment industry for decades and has done a lot of things from standup comedy to acting to even hosting podcasts. But he still manages to slip at auditions.
In an interview on Happy Sad Confused podcast, the ‘Joker‘ actor recalled auditioning for James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 2‘ and called the entire process “ridiculous.” “I don’t even know what it was, a doctor, a scientist who drank“, he said about his part in the film.
He continued, “I’m on camera, I think. I got a picture, a boat, or whatever the fuck it is.” Maron said that he was completely “untethered” and had absolutely “no sense of character.” Maron eventually didn’t get the role but Cameron sent him “a box of cigars because he didn’t cast me.”

James Cameron Reacts To The Film’s Success
‘Avatar: The Way of Water‘ met with critical acclaim upon release and went on to gross more than $2.217 billion globally. It is the highest-grossing film of the year 2022, surpassing ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

In ‘Avatar 3‘, Cameron is planning to show the darker side of the Na’vi people. The film is slated to be released on December 20, 2024.
