    Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water‘ grossed more than $1.547 billion worldwide, surpassing Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun Maverick‘ and becoming the highest grosser of 2022.

    In a recent interview, the director said that he will make more sequels for his hit film. “It looks like just with the momentum that the film has now that will easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this, I’m gonna have to do these other sequels,” he said.

    He said that he knows what he will do for the next six-seven years; further stating that he will have a discussion with Disney regarding ‘Avatar 3‘. Cameron said that the third film is under post-production and the fourth and fifth ones are already written. “We even have some of 4 in the can. We’ve begun a franchise at this point. We’ve begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films,” he said.

    In ‘Avatar 2‘, there were two Na’vi clans: the forest-dwelling Omaticaya and the water-dwelling Metkayina. The third film in the franchise will introduce a new clan that will show their darker side.

    The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” Cameron said.

    Avatar 3‘ is slated to be released theatrically on December 20, 2024, if there are no delays unlike the previous one.
