Kevin Costner assumes a pivotal role in the TV show ‘Yellowstone‘, but his differences with the showmakers have reportedly compelled him to leave the show. While the controversy around him leaving the show has been rife for quite a while, he has commented on the matter publicly as well. His co-stars have also addressed the controversy while staying neutral, careful about not picking any sides.
As his future association with the acclaimed show remains uncertain, he has recently opened up about his disappointment with the lack of support from his co-stars. Here’s what the actor has said.
Kevin Costner Clarifies He “Loves” ‘Yellowstone’ And The People Associated With It
Kevin Costner did not willingly leave ‘Yellowstone’, it was the circumstances that made him do it. And the star has made it amply clear yet again, this time, by speaking about how disappointed he is about the handling of rumors about his exit. Costner played the pivotal character of John Dutton on the Paramount Network series created by Taylor Sheridan.
He departed from the show reportedly because of scheduling conflicts with his four-part Western, ‘Horizon: An American Saga‘. In a recent interview with People, Costner shared his fondness for the series and his involvement in it.
“I loved the show. I liked the people on the show. I liked what it was about. I love that world,” he said. He said that the show was initially pitched to him as a single season and a long movie, but it late got extended. Despite the last-moment requirement of commitment, Costner agreed to stay on for three seasons. Ultimately, he ended up playing the role for five seasons.
Costner said that during an extended hiatus of 14 months, his time could have been better utilized. “I could have done a lot of things in that time, but I wasn’t aware that that [hold-up] was going to happen,” the actor added.

Kevin Costner Reveals Why He Was Disappointed With ‘Yellowstone’ Showrunners
As he began to speak about the rumors of his exit from the show, Kevin Costner chose to remain silent but clarified that he was disappointed by the lack of defense from the show’s side. “I read all the stories, I was disappointed that nobody on their side… ever stepped up to defend what it was I actually did for them,” he said.
“There came a moment where I thought, ‘Wow, when is somebody going to say something about what I have done versus what I haven’t done?’” he added.
Costner also indicated that he might consider returning to ‘Yellowstone‘ to finish the series, but only under specific conditions. “I’ve always felt that…It might be an interesting moment to come back and finish the mythology of this modern-day family,” he said.
“And if that happens, I would step into it if I agreed with how it was being done,” he said, adding, “In the very end, I couldn’t do any more for it than I had already done.”
