“Not Lending Anything To The Extra Chatter”: Johnny Depp Is Proud Of Lily Rose-Depp’s Performance In ‘The Idol’ Despite Graphic S** Scenes

After the ‘Euphoria’ jazz, Sam Levinson is back again on HBO with his controversial new series ‘The Idol.’ The series stars Lily Rose-Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp, and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. It already came under the flames of controversy after a Rolling Stone article, where the production and crew members confessed the series to be borderline p****graphic. However, the series became No. 1 in the world after it started streaming.

HBO has released two episodes of ‘The Idol,’ and it has already delved into nudity rather than the complexity of its protagonist, Jocelyn. In the first episode, we saw Lily Rose-Depp’s popstar preparing to relaunch her career, but someone leaked her cum-clad face picture, serving as a deterrent. She meets the charismatic cult leader and LA club owner, Tedros during the episode. In the second episode, Jocelyn struggles to shoot the music video, so she calls him over for a fun party, which turns into a raunchy, highly sensual house party. Despite criticism about Lily’s overtly sexualized character, Johnny Depp is proud of his daughter for having chosen her path.

The Idol’ is receiving heavy flak on the internet for its highly-sexualized satire of the dark pop industry. Despite the criticism, the Lily Rose-Depp-starrer has been faring. The series also went to the Cannes Film Festival where it received a five-minute standing ovation. At the same film festival, Johnny Depp’s first project after the infamous trial, ‘Jeanne du Barry,’ was also premiered.

A source told Daily Mail that Johnny Depp is extremely proud and happy for his daughter’s feat. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor is unfazed by the criticism and vitriol that the series is receiving. As per the source, “Johnny loves that Lily is carving out a career of her own and challenging herself to take on roles that interest her and test her. He loves that she is her own person and becoming her own actress. She isn’t resting her career on his success.”

The source added, “He loves that she is such a strong person, especially now that she has gotten some extra attention with her recent role in The Idol. He is proud of her and not lending anything to the extra chatter and drama that the role brings and believes that she must be doing something right since the role is getting so much attention, and he is proud of her success.”

Johnny Depp won the infamous defamation trial against Amber Heard in June 2022. He sued the actress for defaming him in the 2018 Washington Post article. The trial divided the world over supporting either. Johnny Depp received support from his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, who is also the mother of two children—Lily and Jack. However, both children were tight-lipped about the case.

Nevertheless, in November 2022, Lily Rose-Depp talked about the trial during an Elle interview. She said, “When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal… I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.”

Lily continued, “I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”
