“Not Looking Too Good”: Jason Momoa Expresses Uncertainty Over Future Of ‘Aquaman’ In New DCU

DC Universe’s beloved ‘Aquaman’ played by Jason Momoa has laid forward disheartening news for his fans. As Momoa is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, the actor said he is uncertain about the future of the DC superhero franchise.

The brand-new part of the Aquaman series is set to hit the screens on December 22. Momoa, while promoting it, also addressed the rumors about this being the last time he would be playing the character of Aquaman.

Jason Momoa said he loves his character, but it is after all in the hands of the creators of the film to give it the right direction. “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice,” he said.

He further said that the creators of the movie, James Gunn and Peter Safran are the new leaders of DC Studios and they have plans to forge a new path and “start their own new thing up.”

However, he is not entirely closed to the possibility of returning as Aquaman.  “The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility,” he said. “But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’” he added.

Momoa also opened up about his attachment to the character. “I love this character and [I would want to] play it for a long time. I kind of see where I would want it to go. And even in the next 10 years or so, like there’s a lot of cool things they can do. And I do enjoy the role and the world. So, I mean, it just comes down to if people love it,” he said.

Also popular for his role as Khal Drogo in the hit series ‘Game of Thrones‘, Momoa first appeared as Aquaman in Justice League’ released in 2017. A year later, he came up with his own standalone movie with his portrayal of Aquaman.

Momoa said he hopes to remain in the DC superhero universe even if not as a reprisal of his role as Aquaman. He said he would be interested in playing a different DC comic book character, as he stated he is deeply attached to Warner and DC.

If there’s a place in their world for me, I would love to be a part of it. This is my home. Warner and DC is definitely my home. So, that’s all I’ll say,” the actor said.
