O.J. Simpson‘s death at the age of 76 marked the end of a life marred with the accusations of the murder of his wife that he did not commit. While he was alive, the NFL star saw a life of triumphs on the football field overshadowed by legal battles that lasted for a very long time. The star recently succumbed to prostate cancer after a reported long battle, but his legacy lives on despite the controversies he got mired into.

Simpson was accused but gradually acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Though O.J. Simpson lived a life of celebrity with ample fame and acclaim for his athletic prowess, his financial standing saw some major fluctuations over the years. An NFL Hall of Fame star, Simpson boasted an estimated $3 million net worth, with much of his income coming from pensions. Though creditors as well as the family of Ron Goldman tried to put a dent in his wealth during the legal trial, they could not legally obtain it.

His earnings included $42,000 annually in Social Security, a Screen Actors Guild pension, and an NFL pension ranging from $125,000 to $300,000 per year. His Legal fees and court settlements, including a one-time payment of $433,750 to Nicole Brown and $10,000 in monthly child support, had a major impact on Simpson’s wealth.

Recently, Ron Goldman’s father Fred Goldman alleged that Simpson owes a staggering $96 million to the Goldman family because of the outstanding interest on the initial $30 million wrongful death judgment. He alleged that Simpson reportedly paid only $123,000 as of February 2021, with the remaining amount still to be paid. After Simpson’s death, Goldman’s lawyer has reiterated that they would continue to pursue justice.

After O.J. Simpson’s death, his  $3 million estate is destined for his surviving children: Sydney, Jason, Justin, and Arnelle. The NFL star had one more son from his first wife, named Aaren. However, he died in a swimming pool accident in 1979 at the age of 2. This left him with four children — two from his first wife, and two more from the second.

For now, it remains unclear how much of his wealth would go to which of his children. But it is likely to be divided among the four of them.

Simpson’s financial legacy also includes the infamous manuscript for ‘If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer’. The book’s rights were initially obtained by the Goldman family, but they later lost them to Simpson, who received $880,000 in advance payment. However, his fortunes quickly changed when he lost the book’s rights and faced arrest in Las Vegas less than two months later.

It’s unknown how much of the book is written by Simpson himself. His former manager, Norm Pardo, has denied he wrote the book.
