Just when we thought the year is coming to an end and we may not have more celebrity deaths waiting for us, acclaimed South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun known for ‘Parasite‘ died on Tuesday. The 48-year-old actor was found dead in a car parked at a Seoul Park, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
Lee Sun-kyun rose to international fame after his role in the Oscar-winning film ‘Parasite’. The 48-year-old actor portrayed the character of the head of a wealthy family with a dark secret in the film. His sudden death has come off as a surprise for his family as well as all his fans across the world.

Lee Sun-kyun Was Found Dead In His Car
Initial reports suggested that Lee Sun-kyun died of an apparent suicide. The investigating officials also found a charcoal briquette in the car, indicating that his death could be a potential case of carbon monoxide poisoning. The reason for his death has not been officially confirmed.
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was not consequently taken to a hospital. Reports also suggest that the actor’s family had contacted the police after Lee drove away from home, leaving a note that indicated that he may kill himself.
However, none of his family members or representative have issued any statements after his death.
Before his sudden death, Lee Sun-kyun was under investigation for alleged drug use. The investigating officials had put him through three rounds of questioning in connection with suspicions of using marijuana and other illegal substances. The investigation stemmed from several instances throughout the year wherein he was suspected of drug usage.

Lee Denied Drug-Use Allegations Against Him
The actor had however denied intentional drug use. He instead claimed that he was tricked into consuming substances at the residence of a high-end bar hostess in Seoul. The initial drug test results were in Lee’s favor, but the probe against him continued.
During the investigation, the actor had submitted a request for a polygraph test to prove his innocence. He insisted that he had no knowledge of the substances he allegedly ingested.
Lee was a renowned actor in the South Korean film industry. Other than his iconic role in ‘Parasite’, Lee was a part of several films that won him accolades. Some of his prominent works include ‘Coffee Prince‘, ‘Pasta‘, ‘A Hard Day‘ and ‘My Mister‘ among others. Lee’s acting in the sci-fi thriller ‘Dr. Brain‘ also won him a nomination for Best Actor at the International Emmy Awards in 2022.
The entertainment world as well as his fans mourns the loss of a talented artist. Though he has bid us farewell, his legacy will leave on through his commendable work.
