The ‘Yellowstone‘ actor had been an overnight star when he acted in ‘American Beauty‘. As a young man with a lot of money at hand, the actor did not know what to do. Wes Bentley Talks About His Heroin Addiction
Wes Bentley’s addiction started immediately after he starred in the critically acclaimed movie, ‘American Beauty’. “I never had money before,” the 44-year-old shared with Page Six. “So there was a lot of combination of things I wasn’t prepared for,” he added.
Establishing himself as a young actor, Bentley knew that he had a lot of time on his hand. “I also knew as an actor that I wasn’t going to be really ready to do good roles until in my 30s and 40s. So I didn’t really want it to happen like that too early. I tried to go with it and hang with it, but I wasn’t ready.”
The actor was arrested in 2008 for heroin possession. But he pleaded guilty. Though mandated to a 12-step program, he relapsed.

Robert Downey Jr. returned to Hollywood in the late 2000s through ‘Iron Man’ which established the actor back in the industry. The ‘Due Date’ actor talked about his drug addiction and the further troubles he had faced publically. And this inspired Wes Bentley. “I was in the deepest throes of my addiction and in the worst place and at death’s door, I guess, or at risk of it and I saw him be so bold and brave and open and it saved me,” he said.
“I met a guy who had been sober and didn’t know, that I was struggling,” the ‘Hunger Games‘ star shared. “He just talked about what a beautiful life he had now, and how he’s looking out the window at the trees, and I missed that. And I thought I want that back,” he explained. All these factors urged the ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show‘ actor to get back to the 12-week mandate program and attend meetings. Finally, Bentley made it through clean giving him a second chance in life.
