Saoirse Ronan is keeping things surprisingly low-key while the internet wonders if her husband, Jack Lowden, could be the next James Bond.

The ‘Slow Horses‘ star has found himself right in the middle of the 007 conversation, but apparently, Bond theories are not exactly dominating dinner at the Ronan-Lowden household. And yes, Gary Oldman may have helped make it even bigger.

Ronan addressed Lowden’s rumored Bond casting during an interview with the Associated Press on Sunday. When the topic came up, the Bad Apples star had a pretty funny response about Lowden’s Slow Horses costar. “Well, Gary Oldman thinks he’s James Bond.”

“[That’s] its own thing,” Ronan said with a smile. But while everyone else is busy guessing, the couple has much more normal things to worry about. “We’re kind of getting on with our lives, to be honest. We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. So, yeah, it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house, to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made—we’re most focused on that.” Basically, Bond speculation can wait. Dinner cannot.

Ronan and Lowden also share a 1-year-old child, so their hands are already pretty full. Lowden is currently filming Slow Horses and, according to Ronan, is “currently having a good time on that.” The Apple TV series is now airing its sixth season.

Gary Oldman Really Got People Talking

The Lowden-Bond rumors got a big boost after Oldman suggested his costar was among the frontrunners for 007. Speaking to Canada’s Global News in September, he said, “It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Naturally, people wondered if Oldman knew something everyone else did not. He later cleared things up during a Visionaries session at TIFF, telling interviewer Josh Horowitz that he does not know who will play Bond. However, he has heard about a six-person shortlist. “I heard a rumor that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative,” Oldman said on Sept. 10.

Oldman also joked about people treating him like he has a direct line to the Bond bosses, saying, “Like I got a red phone [to the Bond people].” After getting “reprimanded” years ago for revealing The Dark Knight Rises before Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie was officially confirmed, he is not about to repeat history. “Even if I knew… I’m not going to open my mouth,” he insisted. “So I do not know who, but I’m hoping it’s Jack.” And when asked about becoming a Bond villain himself, Oldman had another iconic answer: “Don’t do drugs and Bond, villains.”

For now, Amazon MGM Studios is keeping the next James Bond’s identity under wraps. Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming movie, while ‘Peaky Blinders‘ creator Steven Knight will write it.
