Despite having a fantastic love life with Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift’s romantic life is always a subject of speculation by many. These include engagement rumors with ex-boyfriends, and sometimes even speculation of her being a closeted member of the LGBTQ community.
A recent article by the New York Times tried to dissect her sexuality openly- and Taylor isn’t very happy about it. Read on to know more.

New York Times Article Speculates Swift’s Sexuality
An opinion piece by the prestigious publication unfortunately sat down to write about a very sensitive topic related to Taylor Swift- that of her sexuality. The piece, that is titled “Look What We Made Taylor Swift Do” delves into the possibility of her being homosexual, and trying to hide it from the world.
The article noted a lot of instances when she has shown her support towards the community, which the author perceived as her trying to hint at her association with it.
Writing about Swift’s jump in terms of aesthetics when it came to her album ‘Lover’, the article reads, “We can consider the album’s aesthetics and activism as performative allyship…Or we can ask a question: What if the “Lover Era” was merely Ms. Swift’s attempt to douse her work — and herself — in rainbows, as so many baby queers feel compelled to do as they come out to the world?”
Further it says, “Sometimes, Ms. Swift communicates through explicit sartorial choices — hair the colors of the bisexual pride flag or a recurring motif of rainbow dresses.”
The author also accused Taylor of lying about her sexuality and said, “It takes neither a genius nor a radical to see queerness implied by Ms. Swift’s work. Whether she is conscious of it or not, Ms. Swift signals to queer people — in the language we use to communicate with one another — that she has some affinity for queer identity. There are some queer people who would say that through this sort of signaling, she has already come out, at least to us. But what about coming out in a language the rest of the public will understand?”
The article sparked a lot of outrage- mostly from fans but heavily from Taylor’s team. Here’s how Taylor responded to these speculations and how she has shut them in the past.

Taylor Swift Responds To Queer Allegations
In the past, Swift has been clear on where she stands in the matter of her association with the queer community. She has frequently advocated for LGBTQ rights, has expressed that she’s an ally, and has also cleared rumors of her being queer.
The ‘Gaylors‘ or the part of the Swiftie community who still likes to believe that she is, in fact, has been shipping her with her friend Karlie Kloss for a long time. In response to which, she has said, “I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships.” She did that in hopes that people would not “sensationalise or sexualise” her if she hung out with women. She then added, “I would learn later on that people could and people would.”
In response to the New York Times article, an insider from Taylor’s team spoke to CNN Business and said, “There seems to be no boundary some journalists won’t cross when writing about Taylor, regardless of how invasive, untrue, and inappropriate it is – all under the protective veil of an ‘opinion piece’. Because of her massive success, in this moment there is a Taylor-shaped hole in people’s ethics.”
The insider further pointed out the misogyny in this and said, “This article wouldn’t have been allowed to be written about Shawn Mendes or any male artist whose sexuality has been questioned by fans.”
