A few months ago, the singer-actor defended her habit on X stating that she intentionally changed the pitch of her voice for vocal health. In a recent interview, Grande stated that altering voices is “just a part of the job”. She claimed male actors are applauded for their talent. Whereas, being a woman in the industry they are treated differently. The ‘Thank You, Next‘ singer reminded readers of the tremendous skill it takes to speak in a different pitch continuously. In a conversation with Vanity Fair, Ariana Grande delved into the delicacy of altering voices for either singing or for a character. She said, “There is a part of the world that isn’t familiar with what it takes to transform your voice, whether it’s singing or taking on a different dialect for a role or doing a character voice for something.” The ‘Focus‘ singer highlighted the different responses to male actors’ performances.

“When it’s a male actor that does it, it’s acclaimed. There are definitely jokes that are made as well, but it’s always after being led with praise: ‘Oh, wow, he was so lost in the role,” she added. “And that’s just a part of the job, really. Tale as old as time being a woman in this industry. You are treated differently, and you are under a microscope in a way that some people aren’t,” she added.

After the release of ‘Wicked‘s trailer, Ariana Grande appeared in an interview that went viral on social media. The singer came under heavy fire for changing her voice mid-interview. Grande took to TikTok to address the criticism, “habit (speaking like this for two years) and also voice health…I intentionally change my vocal placement (high/low) often depending on how much singing I’m doing I’ve always done this BYE.”

Ariana was filming for the musical fantasy, ‘Wicked‘, where she plays Glinda. The singer stars alongside Cynthia Erivo and Academy Award winner, Michelle Yeoh. Elphaba played by Cynthia forms an unlikely friendship with Glinda and together they travel to meet the Wizard of Oz.
The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 22, 2024, Thanksgiving.
