It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ‘The Office‘ star Jenna Fischer has shocked her fans with a heartening revelation. Fischer is best known for her role as receptionist Pam Beesly in the US version of ‘The Office‘. She also gained fame for her role in the most recent part of the franchise ‘Mean Girls 2’. Though she hasn’t been in the public eye very prominently in the recent past, her revelation might just explain why.
Taking to Instagram in honor of the day, the star revealed that she was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of breast cancer last year but is now cancer-free after receiving treatment. Here’s everything she said.
Jenna Fischer Reveals Her Shocking Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Jenna Fischer expressed disbelief over her cancer diagnosis. “I never thought I was going to be in the position of making an announcement like this, but here we are,” Fischer wrote in the caption of her heartfelt post.
She began her diagnosis journey last October when she went in for a routine mammogram. From simply a lighthearted post jokingly reminding her followers to “take care of your ticking time bags” in the quintessential Michael Scott spirit, it quickly turned serious when a mass in her left breast was found through further tests.
She was diagnosed in December with stage one triple-positive breast cancer, an aggressive but treatable form, as revealed in her post. Fischer revealed that she wasted no time after that. In January, she underwent a lumpectomy to have the cancerous tissue removed.
In February, she started chemotherapy, and in June, she also had radiation. And, of course, that’s not all; she’s also getting Herceptin infusions and Tamoxifen every day to make her chances against recurrence rise. “I’m happy to report that I feel great,” she reassured her followers.
Jenna Fischer Asks Her Fans To Call Their Doctors “Right Now”
Despite the gravity of Jenna Fischer’s diagnosis, she has had it private all this time because of “some great wigs and hats with hair.” In a bold move, she has determined that it is time to make people pay attention and focus on the early detection of cancer.
“I’m serious, call your doctor right now,” she said in the post. “My tumor was so small it couldn’t be felt on a physical exam. If I had waited another six months, it could have been so much worse,” she wrote.

Fischer is also grateful for her support system, including her co-star on the sitcom series ‘The Office‘ and co-host on her podcast, Angela Kinsey. She said Kinsey walked alongside her during the turmoil and helped her navigate work through treatment. Fischer took the day as a chance to tell her fans to keep their health in check.
