“I Was Like, I Can’t”: ‘The Office’ Star Angela Kinsey Reveals She Refused To Perform One Disgusting Joke That Involved Jesus

The US version of ‘The Office’ is known to have multiple offensive jokes. From jokes about race to gender, ‘The Office’ did it all before the “Cancel Culture” was prevalent. However, apparently, some jokes didn’t make it to the show because the actors refused to make these jokes.

Angela Kinsey, who played the role of Angela Martin in The Office, recently revealed that there was a stereotypical Christian joke that she denied making during the show. Her character was a mean uptight Christian.

During the ‘Soul Boom’ podcast, hosted by co-star and her on-screen husband Rainn Wilson, Rainn asked about her feelings playing the character of Angela Martin despite being a person having a meaningful relationship with her faith.

Kinsey revealed that she felt uncomfortable with some jokes. She said there were some jokes that were way stereotypical. Later, she shared an incident while filming an episode of third season of ‘The Office’.

She revealed that there was a joke on Oscar Nuñez’s Oscar Martinez which was very offensive. She said, “I do remember there was a particular storyline between Angela and Oscar, where Angela was being super judge-y. I never went up to Greg about any joke, but there was a joke at Oscar’s expense, and I went up to Greg [Daniels] and I was like, ‘I can’t.’”

Greg Daniels, director and writer of the show, listened to her and removed the joke from the script. Kinsey said,

“And he was like, ‘OK.’ And he heard me, and he took the joke out, and the episode – it was ‘Gay Witch Hunt’ – had so many already. But that’s the one pivotal moment I remember being like, OK, this is feeling like a stereotype and very one-note. I feel like she has more depth than that.”

‘The Office’ ran for 9 long seasons. They mocked work culture and the antiques of a workplace. But that wasn’t the only thing being mocked in the show. If fans start counting the number of times Micheal, Dwight Todd Packer, or any other character makes an offensive joke, it might need them a big fat notebook.

However, during season 3’s episode,‘ Gay Witch Hunt’, Michael during a cut-away says, “You Can’t Call R*tarded People R*tarded, you Call Your Friends R*tards When They’re R*tarded”.

Fans know saying the “R” word to people is very offensive. In the current climate, the show might have been cancelled and Carell might be grilled on social media for it. However, the joke made its way and thankfully was not used much in the rest of the series.
