Dua Lipa is back again and this time with some punches to pack. One of the major importance in her latest Rolling Stone interview was about how the public doesn’t want pop stars to be ‘smart or political’.
The acclaimed star said so from much personal and perhaps secondhand experience. Let’s dive deep into the matter.
Dua Lipa: Jack Of All Trades
Dua Lipa might be the most known for her chart-breaking records like ‘New Rules‘ or ‘Levitating‘ but that’s not all that is there to her. She runs a book club named Service95 Book Club and has launched a lifestyle newsletter and an international music festival in Pristina, Kosovo. She has also acted in the ‘Barbie’ movie in a minor role and is set to have an appearance in the upcoming spy thriller movie ‘Argylle’, starring alongside seasoned actors like Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell and Bryce Dallas Howard.
However, the majority of the public still just knows her as merely a pop star and is adamant about it. She expressed displeasure in the interview with The Rolling Stone over how pop stars are looked upon as mere one-dimensional beings with not much value or nuance to say things.
She recounts her own book launch endeavor and the insensitive comments she had to face. “I don’t know if people believe that I like to read books,” she said. “They don’t want you to be political. They don’t want you to be smart. There is so much more to me than just what I do.”
She has also been spotted advocating for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, she feels personally about the issues because of her familiarity with leaving one’s hometown due to the war (her parents left Albania under the same circumstances). However, as is seen with other celebrities like Bella Hadid the public isn’t that favorable with them making statements that don’t fit the neutral narrative.
It is very easy to see pop stars and other celebrities as mere dressed-up dolls or as a means of entertainment, however, there is much more to them beneath the surface. How many people would know the tale of how Shakira was called a goat by her childhood teacher but barely anyone knows how she has an exceptional IQ of 140 and is a member of Mensa?

Lipa Expresses Displeasure Around Her Dancing Memes
We all must remember the memes circulating since 2018 with Dua dancing a certain step. Some people now have even named it the Dua Lipa step. While the memes themselves are hilarious they have been dragged for too long. Some comments are borderline rude, like how “This is a lazy dance. It’s uninspired” and the famous “Go girl, give us nothing.”
Dua in her interview said the memes did hurt her, “I did find that really hurtful, and I found it really painful because I was like, ‘I’m finally getting to do something that I love to do, and I’m being shut down, that I just can’t seem to do anything right.’”
