One of the longest running medical dramas, Shonda Rhimes’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ is currently in season 20. Loyal fans of the series already know that the series has seen it all — plane crashes, ship crashes, bombs in hospitals, shoot-outs and a lot of complicated relationships.
Recently, there was a mini Grey’s reunion as Skylar Astin featured on the ‘Call It What It Is’ podcast, hosted by Grey’s stars Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington. There, Astin praised the writers of the series, especially mentioning his “sex-bear” storyline.

Skylar Astin Praises ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writers
Skylar Astin played a short role on four episodes of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in 2022. Though his character was introduced as the brother of a patient at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, he ends up getting into a relationship with Camilla Luddington’s Dr. Jo Wilson.
By the end of the 18th season, Jo and Todd have a romantic night together. In the episode that follows, Todd shows up with an oversized stuffed animal that he calls a “thank-you-for-the-excellent-sex bear.”
Skylar Astin recalled this episode on the podcast before praising the bonkers plotline. “Listen,” he said, “those Grey’s Anatomy writers are so amazing, they can write anything. They could reverse it. Be like, ‘What I meant by ‘sex bear’ was that we were bare when we were having sex.”

Camilla Luddington Reveals She Wanted To Keep Skylar Astin On The Show
After the episode, Skylar Astin made no further appearances on the show even though Camilla Luddington returned to play Jo Wilson and Jessica Capshaw also returned recently in her role. Though his character was removed from the show despite a promising character, Astin’s presence was also pushed by Luddington, as she revealed during the interview.
“It was instant love for me,” the actress recalled. “We just clicked instantly, and in fact, to be honest, I did try and beg the writers to just keep you. I’d be like, ‘No, this is the guy for Jo,’” he said.
However, her wish did not come true as Astin moved on to play Todd in the CBS legal dramedy ‘So Help Me Todd’.
