However, Lizzo might have missed the mark while advocating for Harris. The singer addressed a campaign for the Democratic Party in her hometown, Detroit. Unfortunately, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer is facing backlash for her statements.
Lizzo Faces Backlash On Comparing USA To Her Hometown
On October 19, Lizzo addressed her hometown, Detroit encouraging the people to vote for Kamala Harris. The singer amping up the crowd said, “I’m so proud to be from this city, you know they say if Kamala wins then the whole country will be like Detroit.” She continued, “Proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit. The same Detroit that innovated the auto industry and the music industry. Put some respect on Detroit’s name.”

In response to her statement, Lizzo is facing immense backlash in the media. Quoting the current poor statistics and performance of the state, people disagreed with Lizzo’s words. X user, JosaihRises wrote, “This is Trump endorsement LOL”. Another read, “Nobody wasn’t to be like Detroit..Detroit doesn’t even wanna be like Detroit.”
Donald Trump Warned USA Will Be Like Detroit Under Kamala Harris Presidency
Lizzo’s statements were in response to Donald Trump’s earlier speech. The Republican candidate addressed the Detroit Economic Club on October 10. Trump warned the members, “The whole country is going to be like, you want to know the truth? It’ll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president. You’re going to have a mess on your hands.”

Detroit is Lizzo’s hometown, and while she meant well, her campaign blew up spectacularly. Meanwhile, Kamala wore a “Detroit Vs Everybody” t-shirt to the campaign. Nonetheless, the singer believes it is ‘About Damn Time’ USA had a female president. A week ago, Lizzo showed off a t-shirt on Instagram that read, “It’s About Madam Time.”
