Elon Musk is a highly controversial figure for reasons that range from personal to political. While he was recently in the headlines for being a part of Donald Trump’s cabinet after his staunch support for the Republican leader who won his second term as the President, the tech mogul is now making headlines for his personal grievances.
One of Musk’s ex-partners Grimes has revealed details about the turbulent past year of her life, marked by a custody battle with him over their three children — daughter Exa Dark Sideræl (3), and sons X Æ A-Xii (4), and Techno Mechanicus (2). In a heartfelt social media post, the ‘Genesis‘ singer shared the emotional toll the dispute has taken on her. Here’s everything she said.
Grimes Narrates Five Months Of Custody Battle Ordeal When She Could Not See Her Child
Elon Musk has a life as troubled as he shows it off to be glorious. While he is always on a perpetual spree of making problematic social media posts or launching confusing tech products, his partners are seemingly left to look after his children who he has reportedly been an “absent father” to.
Grimes, Musk’s ex-partner who shares three children with him, has come forward to narrate the ordeal she endured in the custody battle for their children. Taking to social media, she wrote, “Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers’ rights having my Instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources,” subtly referencing Musk as the reason behind her tribulations.
My new shit is so elevated beyond that – after everything I've been thru – I am keeping the best of book 1 for the new stuff but I've never been better in my life than right now, and I spent a lot of my time off with babies getting in my ten thousand hours of creative writing and…

Grimes further revealed that she didn’t see one of her children for five months during this period. “All the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months. And this is only what can be said publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors,” she wrote.
Grimes Talks About Custody Row With Elon Musk Followed By Creative Resurrection
Grimes didn’t give details on the settlement between her and Elon Musk, but it was reported last week that the custody battle had been resolved in Texas, though the details remain sealed.
Amidst the emotional chaos, Grimes has also channeled her pain into her art. Reportedly, when sharing an update with a source on her career, she said that her creativity has never been better.

“Poetry and pure raw emotion are pouring out of my soul at a rate I’ve never known,” she wrote, hinting that she’s undergoing a creative evolution. She did not say what those projects would be, but assured that what she is working on may be “upsetting and provocative” and will leave an imprint in the public psyche of those who understand her.
Despite the hardships, Grimes ended her post with hope. “I feel on top of the world right now. Ego death, ego birth – it’s everything an artist could dream of,” she wrote.
This isn’t the first time Grimes has gone public about difficulties connected to Musk. Back in September 2023, in a now-deleted post, she pleaded to the billionaire and Shivon Zilis — the mother of three of his children — for access to see her son. Musk, for his part, is the father of 12 children across three different women.
