    “This Is The American Dream”: Ke Huy Quan Wins Best Supporting Actor At The 2023 Oscars

    Ke Huy Quan has been active in Hollywood for more than four decades. Starting at the age of 12 with ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,’ Quan has come a long way. At the 2023 Oscars, all his hard work was rewarded as he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

    Quan bagged the award for his role in ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once‘ becoming the first Asian actor to win in this category. He won the award after being absent from the screen for a decade and gave a strong and emotional speech after the win.

    Vietnamese American actor Ke Huy Quan received heaps of praise for his portrayal of a caring husband Waymond Wang in the absurdist sci-fi action comedy ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once.’

    At the 2023 Oscars, the 51-year-old actor won the Best Supporting Actor Award. He broke into tears during his speech which came after his decade-long absence from the screen. “My journey started on a boat,” he said.

    He continued, “I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage. They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I cannot believe it’s happening to me. This is the American dream!

    Quay took a break from acting after not receiving good roles for Asian American actors in Hollywood. He worked as a stunt coordinator and assistant director in the film industry before making a comeback in the Daniels directorial venture.

    By bagging the Best Supporting Actor Award, the ‘Indiana Jones‘ actor has become the first Asian performer to win in this category. For a lot of people, he was an unlikely candidate to win.

    At this year’s award season, Quan swept almost all the major awards including the Critics Choice, Golden Globe, Indie Spirit, L.A. Film Critics Association SAG, Gotham, National Society of Film Critics, and New York Film Critics Circle award.

    Dreams are something you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine. To all of you out there: Please keep your dreams alive!”, he said while concluding his speech.
