In the latest episode of the She Pivots podcast, Vanessa Hudgens reflected on how her past breakups played a crucial role in shaping her current relationship. “My character was built from my breakups. It’s never about the other person; it’s always about you and what you need to work on and grow from,” Hudgens said.
The 35-year-old ‘High School Musical‘ alum revealed that her most recent split from Austin Butler, whom she dated for nine years from 2011 to 2020, was a turning point in her life. “It catapulted me to a very, very special place, obviously, getting married,” she shared. Hudgens explained that the breakup ultimately guided her to the right person. “He’s just the most supportive, real understanding human being that I’ve ever met.”

What Went Wrong Between Vanessa Hudgens And Austin Butler?
Hudgens and Butler first met in 2011 and parted ways in January 2020 due to demanding work and travel schedules. The actress sparked dating rumors with Tucker in November of the same year. The couple made their romance public as they announced their engagement in February 2023, sealing the deal with a December wedding.
Hudgens’ remarks about Butler come in the wake of the ‘Dune: Part Two’ actor referring to her as a “friend” during an interview, which stirred some fan reactions. Butler, who is now dating model Kaia Gerber, clarified that his intention was to respect her privacy.
“I felt that I was respecting her privacy in a way and not wanting to bring up a ton of things that would cause her to have to talk,” he said, adding that he still retains love and care for her, “I have so much love and care for her. It was in no way trying to erase anything. I value my own privacy so much, I didn’t want to give up anybody else’s privacy,” he said.
