The casting of Luff was always going to be a laborious find. In a conversation with Teen Vogue, IƱaki Godoy explains how he nailed his audition. Way before the audition, he knew the key to playing the character was to find Luffy’s smile. Once he got it, Godoy was confident of winning the part.
IƱaki Godoy also worked hard on perfecting Luffy’s physical gestures. Godoy also kept a journal, which helped him track his character’s evolution. He also incorporated Luffy’s mannerisms with his physical attributes. Godoy said, āWhen Luffy throws out a punch and then it snaps back, he always puts his hand here [on his forearm].”
