Mirka Federer: Personal Life
Mirka Federer, born on April 1, 1978, is a Swiss former professional tennis player. Bron in Czechoslovakia, Mirka, and her family moved to Switzerland in the year 1987. Her father had taken her to watch a tennis tournament in Germany when she was nine. Here she met former tennis player, Martina Navratilova, who had initiated young Mirka to take tennis lessons.
Mirka married Roger Federer on April 11, 2009, at Wenkenhof Villa in Basel. They had dated for about nine years. The couple welcomed their first identical twin girls, Myla and Charlene in 2009. The Federers had another set of twins, fraternal boys, Leo and Lenny in 2014. Obviously, the four children are seen to be keen tennis players like their parents.
Mirka’s Tennis Career
Mirka started her tennis lessons with the racquet that Navratilova had sent her. From the humble first lessons, Mirka became a pro when she was 19 years old in 1998. She had participated in all grand slams in the year 2000 but was only able to cross the first round at the Australian Open. She also made it to the third round in the US Open in the year 2001. Mirka had played at the 2000 Olympics, where she met her soulmate, Roger Federer. In 2002, she teamed with Federer in Hopman Cup.
The young player was eventually forced to retire from competitive tennis in 2002 due to a recurring foot injury. By the time she closed her career, she was ranked in mid-80s, with a career high of No.76, during the 2001 session. After retirement, Mirka took to the role of Federer’s public relations manager often traveling along with him on tours. Both Mirka and her children are seen at the court supporting and cheering her husband through the tournaments.
