She was signed by Howard Hughes in 1950 for a seven-year contract to make three films a year. Gina resisted the offer and worked with Gerard Philipe in the 1952 French flick ‘Fanfan la Tulipe.’
Gradually, she became one of the most popular European actresses in the 1950s and early 1960s. She was also recognized as a sex symbol around that time. After her acting career faded, Gina became a photojournalist and in the 1970s, she interviewed Fidel Castro.

On January 16, 2023, Gina passed away at the age of 95 in a clinic in Rome, Italy. No cause of death has been provided by the Italian media. In September 2022, the actress underwent surgery to repair a thigh bone broken in a fall.
