Born on 25 April 1944 in Farnborough, Kent, Len Goodman grew up in East London. He attended the Westwood Secondary Modern School in Blackfen where he was also a part of their cricket team.

At the age of 19, Goodman started dancing after a doctor recommended it as a cure for a foot injury. In his late 20s, he won several dance competitions including the British Championships.

From 2005 to 2022, he served as the head judge on ‘Dancing with the Stars’. He was also the judge on its British version called ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ between 2004 to 2016. Apart from dancing, he was also a voice actor and voiced the Professor in the Emmy Award-winning animated series ‘Auto-B-Good.’

On April 22, 2023, Goodman died in a hospice in Kent, England. He was suffering from bone cancer for a while. Goodman passed away while surrounded by his family members.

Jackie Gill, his manager, issued a statement: “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78. A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

British TV presenter Piers Morgan also reacted to his death. He took to Twitter to share a picture of them dancing together. “More very sad news from the world of entertainment…RIP Len Goodman, 78 – welder, dancer, judge, and devoted cricket & West Ham fan. Always had a laugh with Len, and swapped a few strong opinions. A quintessential Londoner and a top bloke,” he wrote.
