Chris Hemsworth is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood. The 39-year-old has worked in many hits like MCU’s ‘Avengers‘ and ‘Thor‘ franchises, ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Men in Black International’, and Netflix’s ‘Extraction’, and won several accolades for various films.
The Australian actor, like many aspirants, started his career with the television show ‘Guinevere Jones’. He even tried his luck in the Australian reality show, ‘Dancing With The Stars‘, along with Abbey Ross. But the pair was eliminated soon. Therefore it was a momentous occasion when Hemsworth was offered a part in the 2009 ‘Star Trek‘. Despite his successful career, there was once a time when the actor thought about giving up on acting.
What Made Chris Hemsworth Want To Quit Acting?
Chris Hemsworth landed his first break with ‘Star Trek‘ film as Lieutenant Commander George Kirk. Despite the sci-fi film’s success, Chris pondered to quit acting for a while after that. Before the actor landed his gig for ‘Thor’ with Marvel, he experienced a dry period in the industry.
Chris was faced with silence from auditions and didn’t get callbacks for 8 months after ‘Star Trek‘. Though he wanted to be an actor since childhood, this dark period got him revaluating his future in the industry.

In an interview with Men’s Health in 2019, the actor opened up about his experience. “I was about to quit. I always wanted to act, and one of the first things I wanted to do when I got any money was pay my parents’ house off,” he said. “Then my mentality changed, which came from being at a point where I was like, ‘I’m going to go back to Australia,” he added.
However, Chris’ childhood dream to pay for his father’s house determined him to stay just a little longer. “In those eight months, I got more and more anxious, to the point where I couldn’t harness that energy,” the Marvel star shared. “I was trying to convince myself I wasn’t nervous before auditions rather than grabbing hold of it and going, ‘Use it, raise up your awareness here, sharpen your focus.”
“I had one more audition where I was like, ‘Do this for his house. Think about reasons other than yourself,’” he said. After that, he bagged the role of Curt Vaughan in ‘The Cabin In The Woods‘. After this film, he signed up with Marvel for the famous role of the God of thunder and lightning.
Chris Hemsworth’s Parents Were His Role Models
Chris Hemsworth was the second son of three — Luke the eldest and Liam the youngest, both of whom are actors too. Hemsworth had always pictured a family just like his father’s. “As kids, we were always hugely athletic, so we were always outdoors doing things, taking a football out and riding motorbikes and surfing together and playing water polo,” the actor said. “
Something I’m very aware of is wanting to have kids young and just being able to be athletic and being able to keep up with them,” he added.
