‘Gossip Girl’ lead characters Dan Humphrey and Serena van der Woodson walked down the aisle in the show, but sadly in the real life, the couple called it quits way too early before the 2012 series finale. The stars of the show – Blake Lively and Penn Badgley got together when the show first aired.
During an interview, Penn Badgley opened up about his relationship with his ‘Gossip Girl‘ co-star, Blake Lively. Badgley described the experience of working on the six-year-long show as two-fold. He said it was “fun and fast-paced, but on the other hand, there was a dark undercurrent that would bottom out in my later 20s”.

Penn Badgley and Blake Lively started dating during the initial period of their show. But unfortunately, the couple broke up three years after dating but kept it under wraps. The executive producer of the show, Joshua Safran revealed, “They kept the breakup hidden from the crew, which you could never do now. I don’t even know how they did it. They kept it from everybody which is a testament to how good they are as actors. Because they did not want their personal drama to relate to the show.”
Despite the duo parting ways long before their on-screen characters did, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively remained professional with each other, on and off the sets. During the cover story for Variety, Badgley even confessed that since Lively did not drink, she saved him from going down the road of substance abuse. The Netflix’s ‘You‘ star, also revealed that the duo broke up because it was overlapping with their professional lives and they were heading towards different relationship goals.
