What Led To Justine And Elon Musk’s Messy Divorce?
Wilson initially met Musk in her freshman year at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, when she was an aspiring writer. She said in an essay that appeared in Marie Claire Musk asked her out on a date, and she accepted; but, on the day of the date, she canceled. She claimed that he continued to find her, apparently unable to accept a refusal, with two ice creams in hand. After separation of a few years, the pair eventually got back together. Wilson detailed how she had been engaged to a wealthy entrepreneur after first dating a struggling businessman. She claimed that once Musk sold his first company, Zip2, in 1999, he became instantly worth $20 million dollars. In 2002, the couple gave birth to a boy named Nevada Alexander. Nevada stopped breathing and had been pronounced brain dead at the age of 10 weeks. The cause of death was listed as SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Following IVF treatment, Wilson gave birth to twins later named Xavier and Griffin as well as triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian over the course of the following five years.
Justine claimed she felt like “an employee” and that her voice was not heard during the marriage, which lasted from 2000 until 2008. She claimed she became a trophy wife and, although leading a dream life, she came to the realization that this was not what she wanted. The Tesla CEO agreed to go for counseling with her but in the end, gave her an ultimatum of “fixing the marriage today or tomorrow I divorce you.” She claimed that the next day, she received divorce papers in the mail and declared to be estranged from Musk at the time the piece was published in Marie Claire, but she still did not regret their union. She said that they had joint custody of their kids, who were believed to be “thriving.” Justine also said that she kept the last name of her ex-husband after divorce for the sake of her children.
