Why Were Prince William And Kate Middleton Booed At Boston Celtics Vs Miami Heat Game?

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton received an unwelcoming greeting from Boston while watching the Celtics versus Miami game. The crowd of the game booed at the royal couple. The Prince and Princess of Wales were sitting courtside at TD Garden and were seated next to Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. This is the first visit of the couple since 2014 and apparently, it did not go well.

The palace is caught up in another racism scandal after Prince Harry’s wedding to the black American actress Meghan Markle. Prince William’s godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, stunned the entire world with her bigoted questions. So the first appearance of the royal residents of Windsor following the controversial row was going to grab eyeballs. Lady Susan has already apologized in the media however that does not seem to have satisfied the public as Prince Willam and Kate received boos amid US chants.

Lady Susan persistently asked Ngozi Fulani questions about her “actual” ethnicity which struck the latter as racist. Fulani, an English black woman, founded the domestic violence charity Sistah Space. Lady Susan, the godmother of Prince William, asked on numerous occasions where Fulani was from. When Fulani replied that she is from the United Kingdom, she was subsequently asked “Where do her people come from?” Susan apparently wanted to know from which part of Africa Miss Fulani belonged.

After the news spread like wildfire and Lady Susan received much backlash, she immediately apologized to the media and even stepped aside from her duties. Susan was the late Queen Elizabeth’s close companion and helped her organize royal parties. A spokesperson of Prince William gave a statement to the press that “racism has no place in our society”.

“The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect,” they added. The palace has been tangled in racist controversy before, during Prince Harry’s marriage to Megan Markle.

Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Appearance After The Controversy

    Princess Kate and Prince William

Prince Willaim and his wife Kate lived an awkward moment on the basketball court as they were booed by the spectators when they were flashed on the screen live. The feed had to be removed quickly. The couple was allegedly lectured about the “legacy of colonialism and racism” by a black reverend. According to Express, the royal duo received an earful from Reverend Mariama White-Hammond.

Therefore, the visit of the prince and princess to the United States after years is not going so well. The incident has been embarrassing and insensitive on the part of the palace administration. Willaim and Kate were visiting The United States for three days in the light of the annual Earth shot Prize Awards Ceremony, and they had to bear the hate. Now, the excitement for the event seems to be overshadowed by the racism row.
