Will Ferrell has spent decades making people laugh, but even he has had his fair share of awkward moments. For stars, meeting fans is usually about taking selfies or hearing compliments. But Ferrell once had an unexpected encounter that really pushed him to his limits.
It started with a pleasant conversation that also involved comedy genius Larry David. But soon, it turned into an unsolicited critique of his own comedy. The comedian laughed off the first time, but when the fan repeated that he was “no Larry David,” Ferrell just lost it.
Will Ferrell Snapped After A Fan Repeatedly Compared Him To Larry David
On his appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ferrell shared one of the most memorable stories of his life. Turns out, one day while walking to the restroom at a restaurant, Ferrell found himself next to a woman who recognized him and started chatting with him.

Initially, the discussion was rather nice and friendly. The woman said, “You’re very funny…but you’re no Larry David.” Instead of getting offended, the actor/comedian confessed that he completely agreed with that statement.
“Oh, well, yeah,” he recalled, saying, “Are you kidding me? He’s one of the best. He’s a king.” After that, Ferrell left the woman alone and went into the restroom. As luck would have it, they both exited at the exact same time.
The lady didn’t want to leave their conversation just there, and so she repeated her claim. “I’m serious, you’re no Larry David. You’re not even close to him,” she told him. At that point, Ferrell decided that enough was enough.
A frustrated Ferrell told him, “You know what? I get it. You like Larry David. Why don’t you go back to your table and shut up?” He joked that the woman probably returned to her friends saying, “I just met that Buddy the Elf. He’s an a–hole. I just told him I love Larry David.”
Ferrell Usually Turns Criticism Into Jokes
Despite that experience being memorable for Ferrell, he claimed that people usually don’t tell him anything negative directly. But as a comedian, he prefers making jokes out of unexpected fan interactions.

For instance, once someone approached him and said that he finds him “hilarious” no matter what others say. Ferrell didn’t let it go and asked, “Well, thank you, but what are they saying?” Then, when the person couldn’t give an answer, Ferrell pressed him again.
“No, let’s sit down and talk about it. I want to break it down. Who’s they? Give me the list.” All these stories just prove why Ferrell is one of the most loved comedians. During his stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’ between 1995 and 2002, he won everyone’s hearts with sketches.
These included ‘More Cowbell,’ ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!,’ and ‘The Spartan Cheerleaders.’ The comedian also starred in many successful films such as ‘Elf,’ ‘Anchorman,’ ‘Old School,’ and ‘Blades of Glory.’ In recent years, Ferrell has shown his producing skills in projects like ‘Succession’ and ‘May December.’
