Suri Cruise has officially made one of the biggest personal decisions of her life. Fresh legal records reveal that the 20-year-old has legally dropped her father Tom Cruise‘s surname and is now Suri Noelle.
The move comes as she settles into college life, builds her acting career, and continues creating an identity of her own. The legal update answers one big question after fans noticed she had started using the name Noelle years ago. So, why did she make the change, and when did it become official?
Legal Records Confirm Suri Cruise Is Now Suri Noelle

Page Six reports that public records show Suri registered to vote in Pennsylvania in October 2024 while attending her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University. She registered in Allegheny County under the name Suri Noelle, confirming it is now her legal name.

Pennsylvania courts also confirmed to Page Six that residents must register to vote using their legal name. Court records further show that Suri did not file a name change request in Allegheny County, suggesting she likely completed the process before leaving New York.
Since she lived there with her mother, Katie Holmes, before college, the legal filing may have happened in New York, where name change requests are automatically sealed or sealed upon request.
The legal confirmation comes after years of subtle hints. Suri first grabbed attention in June 2024 when her LaGuardia High School graduation ceremony pamphlet listed her as Suri Noelle instead of Suri Cruise. At the time, a source told Page Six she was “showing praise for her mother” by using Noelle, which is Holmes’ middle name.
Why Suri Started Leaving The Name Of Tom Cruise Behind

The same source shared that Suri wanted to “avoid the paparazzi,” establish her “own identity,” and “start fresh at college.” Those reasons now make even more sense after legal records confirmed the change was more than just a personal preference.

Suri has reportedly been estranged from Tom Cruise for most of her life. Tom and Holmes welcomed their only child together in April 2006 and married seven months later. After their divorce in August 2012, Suri remained with Holmes, who has since reflected on raising her daughter by saying they “kind of grew up together.”
While her personal life has sparked headlines, Suri has also been making steady progress as a performer. She caught the acting bug in high school after landing the lead role of Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family: A New Musical.”
Suri’s legal name change may be making the biggest headlines right now, but it is only one part of a much bigger story. As she continues building her theater career and creating a life away from Hollywood’s spotlight, she appears determined to make sure people remember her for her own work rather than the famous surname she has now left behind.
