Tom Holland has played Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for almost a decade. And now, as he prepares for the franchise’s fourth installment, the actor notes that it will be significantly different from the previous ones.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ is not just a continuation of the story. But it also takes Peter Parker to the next level. According to the British actor, it’s going to be a more mature and darker turn for the character and those close to him.
Tom Holland Teases A Darker And More Mature Story
Speaking on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere, Holland explained that the themes in the upcoming film will depart from those of the other three movies. “It’s more mature, and it’s a darker theme,” he told Deadline at the event.

“And it’s a theme that I think is incredibly relatable to young people.” According to him, the film centers around the idea of starting anew after moving to a new city. Holland mentioned the feeling of loneliness that creeps in such a situation.
It gets so overwhelming that sometimes one can’t realize the “best thing” that happened to you has been with you all along. “I think for me, being able to tell a story that’s relatable on a stage as big as this is such an important responsibility for Destin [Daniel Cretton] to carry that theme throughout the movie.”
Moreover, Holland expressed excitement at the opportunity. Directed by Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Interestingly, Sink’s part remains a secret, with fans guessing whether she would play Jean Grey, Spider-Girl, or Firestar. Meanwhile, the story starts four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’
As you may recall, Peter asks Doctor Strange to erase the world’s memory about his secret identity. Living now in a world where not even MJ and Ned know who he is, Peter starts his new life as the web-slinger in a new city while struggling with a mysterious villain that he’s never faced before.
According to the movie’s logline, the new identity sparks a change that he may not be able to control. “But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves—a powerful villain no one can even see.”
“The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them,” a part of the logline stated. ‘Brand New Day’ is a new start for Peter Parker. However, Holland claims that his relationship with the character stays the same.
Holland Calls Playing Spider-Man “The Gift Of My Life”
Having portrayed Spider-Man for ten years, Tom Holland described the stint as the “gift of my life.” He also shared his feelings about the friendships he established with the creative teams at both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter.

“There’s a family here at Marvel and Sony. We’ve been making these films for 10 years, and we’re all really good friends. We still love working together, and there’s a shared love for this character, Peter Parker,” Holland said.
Additionally, the actor added that every reunion with his colleagues is still a special moment, something that will never sink in for him. “It still feels like this is my first-ever premiere for this character. It has been the gift of my life,” he added.
However, speaking about how long he would keep playing the iconic hero, Holland wasn’t ready to set any limits. “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me. So, if this movie does well, I guess we’ll see,” he said. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will hit theaters on July 31.
