Zendaya is all set to evoke her maternal instincts as she steps into a new role in her upcoming film ‘Challengers’. And the superstar is crediting the “mothers in my life and around me” for her ability to play the role efficiently. At the movie premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, the actress said the mothers in her life have largely inspired her performance.
In the sports comedy, Zendaya takes on the role of Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach. Reflecting on her preparation for the role, Zendaya said that her experience with her many nieces and nephews also provided her with some caregiving practice.
“I have many, many nieces and nephews, so they’re like my borrowed children, you know? I get to have fun and give them back to their parents,” the ‘Euphoria‘ star said. “But I’m definitely inspired by how they tackle and take on motherhood.”
It’s Zendaya’s First Time Playing A Mother, But Her Director Is Confident About Her
In ‘Challengers’, Zendaya finds herself at the center of a love triangle between her character’s husband and former boyfriend, played by Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor respectively. The film follows the story woven around three players who reunite for a tennis tournament and reignite old rivalries both on and off the court.
This is the first time that Zendaya would be portraying a mother on screen, which is a challenge of its own accord. However, director Luca Guadagnino said he is confident about Zendaya’s ability to adapt and do justice to the role.
The ‘Call Me By Your Name‘ director also her exceptional performance during the editing process. Zendaya also had to undergo extensive training with professional tennis coach Brad Gilbert to prepare for her role.
As the film’s release date approaches, Zendaya is on the press tour and is stealing the limelight with her signature style. She was recently seen donning custom outfits by Loewe and Bulgari with eye-catching white pumps adorned with neon yellow tennis balls.
‘Challengers‘ hits theaters on April 26.
