Colin Farrell’s transformation into The Penguin for HBO’s series and Matt Reeves‘ ‘The Batman‘ was one of the most impressive makeovers for any role. However, taking on Oswald Cobblepot came with its fair share of challenges as Farrell had to endure hours sitting in the makeup chair every day to be covered in prosthetics. In a recent interview, Colin Farrell opened up about the toll it took and his reluctance to go through it all again if a second season was to happen.
While Colin Farrell was proud of the work that went into bringing The Penguin to life, the prolonged makeup sessions became a source of stress. Farrell reflected on feeling frustrated by the filming experience by the end. However, he understands the opportunity was a privilege as few have played such an iconic Batman villain on screen.
Colin Farrell Found Prosthetics Process Overwhelming
In an interview with Total Film, Colin Farrell shed more light on finding the application of the prosthetic exhausting. He said, “By the end of it, I was bitching and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I f***ing wanted it to be finished“. The actor added that after wrapping up, he said “I never want to put that f***ing suit and that f****ing head on again“. The physical and mental toll clearly wore Farrell down over the lengthy shoot.

Farrell explained, “It got in on me a little bit“. Having to sit through makeup calls that could last up to five hours daily added an exhausting layer. Colin Farrell seemed burnt out by the repetitive task of transforming using prosthetics by the production’s conclusion.
Farrell Is Cautious About Potential Season 2
Should ‘The Penguin‘ get renewed for a second season, Colin Farrell said he would consider returning reluctantly. However, he reluctantly said, “Maybe in a year I would”. While staying open-minded in theory, the actor appears fairly certain he wouldn’t want to endure the makeup marathon again, in reality, any time soon. His comments strongly indicate against about repeating the extensive prosthetics work.
