DC Studios chief James Gunn just gave a big update on what is coming next for the DC Universe. Two TV shows that have been in the works for a while, the Wonder Woman prequel ‘Paradise Lost‘ and the time travel series ‘Booster Gold‘, are both moving ahead.
But in an honest conversation with fans online, Gunn also said another high-profile project, ‘The Authority‘, has been put on hold for now.
‘Paradise Lost’ Described as ‘Game of Thrones’ Style Political Drama

Gunn responded to fans on Threads who were worried the shows might get canceled. He broke down where things stand, confirming that ‘Booster Gold‘ is still being worked on, but he used some strong words to describe ‘Paradise Lost‘, the show set on the Amazon island of Themyscira.

“BG is in development. PL is in extreme development,” Gunn wrote. His choice of words makes it sound like the Wonder Woman prequel has moved further along than other projects that are still just being written.
‘Paradise Lost‘ was first announced as part of the DCU’s “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” lineup. It is supposed to be a dense political drama that takes place hundreds of years before Diana Prince is born. DC has compared the show to ‘Game of Thrones‘, focusing on the fighting, scheming, and harsh traditions of the Amazons. Gunn previously explained the idea by asking, “What’s the beautiful truths and the ugly truths behind all of that? And what’s the scheming like between all the different power players in that society?”
The news about ‘Booster Gold‘ also shuts down rumors that the show had stalled. It follows a loser from the future who steals technology to pretend to be a hero in the present. Gunn once called the idea “imposter syndrome as a superhero.”
‘The Authority’ Movie Officially Shelved for the Foreseeable Future

While fans of the Amazons and the time-traveling hero have reason to be happy, Gunn was very clear about ‘The Authority‘. The movie, which was supposed to introduce a team of anti-heroes, has been frozen for now. Gunn said the script just did not fit into the larger DC Universe plan.

“I never had an intention of writing or directing The Authority,” Gunn said. “The script wasn’t quite there, but more importantly, it didn’t work in terms of the larger DCU, both in terms of the story and practical concerns. Maybe someday. Not soon.”
With ‘Supergirl‘ and ‘Lanterns‘ still moving forward, Gunn’s latest update shows that while some parts of the DCU are getting dropped, the world of Wonder Woman is becoming a top priority for the studio’s streaming future on HBO Max.
