Lanterns’ has turned its small-town mystery into something much bigger after Episode 2 revealed that a Manhunter is hiding somewhere in Rushville. Now, with only 48 hours to find out the alien’s identity, John Stewart must face deadly consequences if he fails.

That immediately makes almost every big character a suspect. And, in all honesty, that’s what makes the mystery so much fun. The answer might be a character that the viewer already knows, or it could be an all-out twist. However, one character stands out more than others.

Zoe Macon Is The Most Suspicious In ‘Lanterns’

Poorna Jagannathan’s Zoe Macon could be one of the least expected choices. She is introduced mainly through her relationship with John and her marriage to William Macon. Which might be the ideal cover-up.

If Zoe happens to be the Manhunter, she’s positioned herself right next to one of the most powerful and suspicious families in Rushville. She would have William’s plans, his resources, and maybe even the secret benefactor behind his alien hunting.

Even better, William would have absolutely no reason to suspect the person closest to him. There’s also John’s emotional bond with Zoe. In episode 2, John is starting to trust her, making it even more personal if he’s betrayed.

When he finds out that the woman he’s been developing feelings for is the alien he’s been hunting, his mission suddenly gets a lot more complicated. And that’s exactly the kind of emotional conflict ‘Lanterns’ seems interested in exploring.

William Macon And His Benefactor Are Still In The Race

Another obvious candidate is William. His obsession with hunting aliens, mysterious connections, and secretive behavior could all be explained if he is hiding something far more dangerous. But there are other significant questions about his character, like his possible involvement with the Black Hand.

Then there’s William’s mysterious benefactor. This invisible being is behind the scenes with technology to detect aliens and seems to be controlling them. If the Manhunter is someone we’ve seen little of or not at all, then the benefactor might be the ideal solution.

Still, Zoe feels like the strongest choice because her reveal would hurt John personally. A good mystery should not only surprise you, but it should leave you in awe. And if Zoe really is the Manhunter, Lanterns could have one hell of a reveal waiting for John Stewart.
