The mid-season trailer for ‘Lanterns’ is not hiding anything, and Hal Jordan is being blamed for a mess that is far more complex than it appears. The final three episodes are all about to flip the entire story on its head, if the trailer is any indication.
Is Everything Really Hal Jordan’s Fault?
The most surprising thing is that Hal is serving five years in prison for what transpired in town. Even more interesting, the trailer implies that Hal was taking the blame for John Stewart, while John seemingly accepts little responsibility for his part in what happened.

That makes Guy Gardner’s brutal assessment of Hal even more interesting. What several characters already appear to suspect is confirmed by Guy: Hal is kind of an asshole. However, the trailer may be deliberately pushing viewers toward blaming him.
Hal eventually makes his way back to town, but finds out that people want him dead. Meanwhile, John is now communicating with Sinestro, raising even more questions about whose side he is really on. Then there’s the creepy stuff.
Zoe’s grandson is seen on several occasions, and it’s still a possibility that the Manhunter story is much more personal than anyone thought. John’s parents also behave strangely enough to make the “pod people” comparison feel surprisingly appropriate.
The Trailer Features Clones, Weaponers And One Very Dead Hal
The most bizarre thing is the identical marks on Hal and John’s arms. If those marks are linked, it may be indicating a much greater conspiracy in Rushville than just a mere plot. And it might be possible that cloning is involved. The trailer also poses another giant question regarding Guardian Lianna.

If the theory that she is secretly a Weaponer turns out to be true, her manipulation of events suddenly takes on an entirely different meaning. Then there’s the dead Hal Jordan. The obvious question is whether the dead Hal is a clone, or if he’s actually dead and another version of him is walking around.
But really, after all of the crazy stuff ‘Lanterns’ has dished out, that might not be the craziest explanation. The last three episodes now have one big question to answer: Was it Hal Jordan’s fault, or was the whole season leading up to a giant misdirect? And at this moment, it’s too simple to blame Hal.
