The world of ‘The Batman’ is finally starting to open up again, and one new casting addition could completely reshape the emotional core of Matt Reeves’ Gotham.
After months of speculation, Sebastian Stan has officially commented on his appearance in ‘The Batman Part II,’ and it’s a lot darker and bigger than fans had anticipated.
Gotham’s Dent Family May Be Central To The Story

Stan hasn’t officially confirmed he’s playing Harvey Dent, but reports strongly indicate that the MCU star will be Gotham’s future Two-Face. Aside from that, it’s just the kind of multi-layered role Reeves would want to pursue. Talking about the project, Stan said that the movie was “ambitious”. He hinted that people are going to be amazed at what Reeves is creating.
“I feel like it’s a really ambitious movie, and I think if we do it all right, and obviously I’m so excited about Matt Reeves directing because he’s been one of my favorites for a long, long time. I really think it’s going to blow people away,” he told Deadline. It’s a pretty bold claim given the grounded and psychologically charged first film.
One of the biggest hints at the direction of the sequel may not be from Stan himself, but from the number of characters connected to Harvey Dent that are surrounding him. It is reported that Scarlett Johansson has signed on as the film’s Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife in DC Comics, and Charles Dance is said to be joining the film as Christopher Dent, Harvey’s father.
That’s a surprisingly deep investment in Harvey’s personal life, suggesting Reeves isn’t simply introducing Two-Face as another villain for Batman to punch. It may turn out to be a complete tragedy of Gotham’s corrupting of one of its brightest.
Mr. Freeze Rumors Continue To Grow

Meanwhile, Reeves still has the movie’s principal antagonist totally under wraps. Barry Keoghan will be returning as Joker, but presumably not as the main villain. Rather, fans have been buzzing about Mr. Freeze in the wake of Reeves’ tease of a winter setting for the sequel. Even though no casting has been announced for Victor Fries yet, the recent test footage and behind-the-scenes images only fueled those theories.

Honestly, a winter-set Gotham with Harvey Dent’s fall sounds like the ideal setting for Reeves’ dark world of detectives. The setting is cold, the mystery of the villain is still not solved, and Stan is giving off some pretty cryptic vibes. This makes ‘The Batman Part II’ already one of DC’s most intriguing projects in years.
