‘America’s Got Talent’ is one of the most popular reality shows of all time. The show has been airing for 16 years and has a total of 17 successful seasons. It has seen changes in its judges and overall reception over the years.
But change is the only constant and ‘America’s Got Talent‘ is no different. The talent show competition has finally decided to implement several changes to the latest season’s formatting. The major one is the end of the infamous quarterfinal round. It would be interesting to see how the future pans out.

‘America’s Got Talent’ Drops The Quarterfinals
According to a report from Talent Recap, the Simon Cowell show has decided to drop the infamous Quarterfinal round. ‘America’s Got Talent’ will air Qualifiers 1 on Tuesday, August 9. The description of the new round’s first episode mentions that it has 11 performers taking the stage “as judging is turned over to the American viewing audience.” This means that judge deliberation will be taking place.
The qualifiers round of the show will take place in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, unlike the earlier avenue of Dolby Theatre. If the story is true and qualifiers replace quarterfinal rounds entirely, viewers can expect to see another finale featuring the Top 10 acts.
It feels like the American audience will finally have the chance to vote for their favorite acts in this round. Only two acts from the overall set will feature in the finale. The similarity between the format reminds of the NBC series, ‘American Song Contest.’
Will It Change Anything On The Show?
The format has been active on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ where there are long weeks of the audition. It is followed by a few episodes of the semifinals, then the finale.
Now fans can expect to see the judges picking their favorite top 55 contestants at the end of the upcoming episode. There are speculations of a wildcard entry this year since the last episode mentioned voting.
If the American version follows the exact format of its British counterpart, we can expect the finale to immediately follow each round of the Qualifiers. The ‘America’s Got Talent’ finale is slated to take place on Tuesday, September 18.
While the new format might seem cool, there is one downside to it. There are only five episodes which some might think is a good thing. There were six golden buzzer receivers this season, which means that one episode will have to increase on Golden Buzzer recipients.
