Mavis Vermillion and Zeref Dragneel are two opposing characters in the anime ‘Fairy Tail’. Mavis plays the role of a prominent protagonist while Zeref takes the role of the worst antagonist in the story. Still, the two fall in love helplessly and give birth to a child they themselves are unaware of. This shocked the fans quite a bit, as it seems impossible not to know you have a child.

Curse Power: Mavis Vermillion and Zeref Dragneel
Mavis Vermillion was the founder of ‘Fairy Tail‘ along with her three friends. During her journey, she was faced with a choice that cost her a future of her own. She sacrificed herself in order to save one of her friends Yuri Dreyar who then turned into a skeleton dragon. Without her help, he would have died, but she used high-end magic that turned against her own body.
For the cost of using such high-level magic, she was cursed with immortality. She was to stay the same as she was, in a child-like appearance. Her main magic power was illusionary magic. It was so strong that she could actually create hordes of humans with magical abilities, as an illusion.
Zeref on the other hand is also a cursed person who roamed the world for more than 1000 years. After an attack by dragons, he lost his family and his younger brother Natsu Dragneel. In order to revive his brother, he started learning black magic. Later he was cursed with the Curse of Contraction.
It made him immortal and anyone who he felt deeply for would die in front of him. This made it impossible for him to stay near any living beings for 1000 years, until he met another cursed person like him, Mavis. The two sharing the same pain, fell in love with one another.

What Is The Mystery Behind The Birth Of Mavis And Zeref’s Son In ‘Fairy Tail’?
The solution to the curse they were suffering from was very simple. It was love. If their love was powerful, they would have been able to overcome their cursed fate and live happily with one another. But fate had something else in store for them. While Zeref fell deeply in love with Mavis, Mavis didn’t share that much affection for him.
As the two shared a deep kiss, Zeref’s curse overwhelmed Mavis, killing her in the process. Though it was only her body that died, her spiritual self remained. The contradiction of both opposing curses caused Mavis to conceive. But as her body died, she was unaware of this fact and so was Zeref.
Mavis’ death nearly drove Zeref to madness, but he contained it in and delivered her body in front of the guild. It was Precht who discovered Mavis was still breathing and decided to enshrine her in a big lacrima to protect her body from decaying. While in the lacrima, Precht performed several experimental magic to revive her but only to face disappointment.
All this magic, gave birth to Zeref and Mavis’s child August. Though Precht looked after the kid, in the beginning, he left him after a while in a forest. As the kid wandered around, he found his way in front of Zeref. Facing him made Zeref remember Mavis, as the child looked much like her. He took him under his wing, naming him August (the month when Zeref spent with Mavis).
Interestingly enough, the child had the power to rack through his and Mavis’ memories. He knew Zeref was his father and decided to follow him. For some unknown reason, he didn’t inform Zeref of it though. During the last war between Fairy Tail and Zeref, August finds his mother, just before perishing.
August was engaged in a war with Gildarts and Cana. he was about to unleash a powerful spell, but stopped his attacks when he saw Mavis frantically running on the street. He decides to take on Gildarts attack and dies at the moment. Till the end, neither Zeref nor Mavis knew of his existence. All August wanted was recognition from both his parents before passing. His life thus ended in a tragic way.
