“Funniest Thing Ever”: Twitter Loves Parody Of Kendall Jenner’s Controversial Pepsi Ad By ‘The Boys’

Whatever the Kardashian-Jenner clan does, it goes down well in history – for better or for worse. There are so many digital footprints left by the family that the internet has one or the other way to poke fun at it. Think “Is that a chicken?” line that Kylie Jenner said when momager Kris Jenner brought a pig. In an episode of the family sitcom ‘Modern Family’, Phil Dunphy also asked his kids “Is that a chicken?”. Now, the Amazon Prime Video series ‘The Boys’ has dug up an embarrassing piece of another Jenner content.

In 2017, Kendall Jenner headlined a Pepsi campaign. The advertisement received a lot of flak due to its appropriation of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. However, after five years, ‘The Boys’ has recreated a parody of the ad in the most light-hearted manner without punching down.

During the new episode of ‘The Boys’ on Friday, the character from the series, A-Train, paid a “satirical tribute” to Kendall Jenner’s controversial ad of 2017. In the episode, we see A-Train desperate to prove his Black roots in a gaffe advertisement to promote Turbo Rush Energy Drink.

A-Train rants about Blue Hawk – a police officer – to Ashley. She says, “social justice is so important. Black Lives Matter is my favorite hashtag. My Insta? Nothing but black screens.” She evades discussing Black Hawk.

After that, the advertisement plays out where A-Train is getting ready for his shot, and a throng of people carry placards flashing “Peace”, “Love,” and other things. He leaves the set and joins the protesters in the march. There is a close shot of his energy drink named ‘Turbo Rush Energy Drink’.

A-Train approaches the policemen and hands the can to them. Nonetheless, they accept the beverage and start mingling with the protesters. At this very moment, he looks into the camera and says, “We gotta listen to each other. A-Train’s Turbo Rush Energy Drink.” Twitter had a hilarious reaction to the recreation:

The recreation is a copy-paste imitation of Kendall Jenner’s 2017 Pepsi ad campaign. In the now-removed commercial, Kendall walks out of the photo shoot to join the marching protesters on the street. She grabs a chilled can of Pepsi and hands it over to one of the officers. He takes a sip and a wave of glee crashes through the crowd. The ad garnered a lot of criticism on social media.

Pepsi released a statement that read, “Pepsi was trying to project a message of unity, peace, and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”

The supermodel in one of the episodes of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ addressed the backlash. She said, “The fact that I would offend other people, or hurt other people is definitely not the intent. I trusted everyone. I trusted the teams. But after I saw the reaction and I read what people had to say about it, I most definitely saw what went wrong.”
