    According to Variety, Heard has decided to pay Depp $1 million to settle their long legal battle. The amount is a reduction from the $8.35 million she was ordered to pay by the jury in the Virginia trial.

    The actress will pay the sum from her insurance carrier. Depp’s lawyer has said in the past that he will be donating the money to charity. They said for Depp, the case was “never about the money”.

    Heard said that the settlement will help her to “emancipate” herself from their marriage. Following the conclusion of the trial, Heard filed a notice of appeal and cited “errors” made by the court.

    However, she then agreed to withdraw her appeal. “There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward,” she wrote on social media. She also slammed the justice system for turning her testimony into public entertainment.

    Depp’s attorneys Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez also responded to this news in a statement. “We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light,” it said.
