Ricky Martin To Sing At Hollywood Bowl Amidst Domestic Violence Allegations
According to a report from The Los Angeles Times, Martin will be doing back-to-back shows at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend. This is amid allegations of domestic violence from his young nephew, Yadiel Sanchez.
The concert is billed on the Hollywood Bowl’s official website as “an exhilarating night of ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ and many other international hits with the King of Latin Pop!” It is conducted by L.A. Phil’s Gustavo Dudamel. The tickets range from $15 to $157.
The 50-year-old singer has been embroiled in a controversy for the past few days after a restraining order was issued against him under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law.
Martin’s brother Eric revealed the identity of the accuser as Martin’s 21-year-old nephew. The petitioner reportedly dated Martin for seven months. The two broke up recently but reports claim that Martin didn’t want to end the relationship. He kept moving around his nephew’s house. The legal document also notes that “the petitioner fears for his safety.” This resulted in a restraining order being issued against Martin.
Martin Denies All The Claims
Earlier, the ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ singer’s lawyer issued a statement that Martin never had “any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.”
The statement added, “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting.”
“We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts,” the lawyer added.
Martin could face around 50 years of jail time if the allegations are established. A hearing related to the domestic violence accusations has been set for July 21 in Puerto Rico. Apart from this, the singer also is facing a lawsuit from former manager Rebecca Drucker. This is over alleged unpaid commissions of around $3 million.
